Goodbye Xabi Alonso. It´s refers to the fact that regardless of whether you are a club legend and you have bad results, you will be fired.

Xabi Alonso and Rubén Amorim have become the two major negative protagonists of the European bench at the start of 2026: two élite projects, two giant clubs, two ambitious ideas… and the same outcome: dismissal, burnout and the feeling of an opportunity that vanished too quickly.

Just a few minutes ago, Manchester United, using the same 4-2-3-1 formation, not only made things difficult for City in the Derby of that city but also humiliated them with Michael Carrick as interim manager until the end of this season.

Without a doubt, there was a disconnect in the Amorim Project, or perhaps the Manchester United FC bench was simply too much for him.

Today, not only did the Red Devils score more goals against City’s porous defense, but their defensive unit was excellent. Lisandro Martínez and Harry Maguire commanded respect and gave Erling Haaland no breathing room, exposing him for what he is.

A simple «Cyborg» who just trots around and does nothing if you know how to reference him and impose your leadership presence as Martínez-Maguire managed to do today.

We’re back in 2026 after a well-deserved vacation, and with this material in English for our English-speaking followers.

Our last sports article covered the Premier League during the December holiday season and Boxing Day. We’re starting this new year by analyzing the now-departed Amorim and Xabi Alonso.

A legend’s farewell at the Bernabéu: Xabi Alonso’s departure from Real Madrid was sealed in a brief statement, wrapped in the usual «by mutual agreement,» but with all the weight of a dismissal following the defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona.

They lost a Super Cup in Saudi Arabia against FC Barcelona, and after several weeks of poor results, Florentino Perez decided to dismiss him. Now, interim manager Alvaro Arbeloa has taken over, and just minutes ago they defeated Levante 2-0.

FC Barcelona continues to lead in the Spanish League, we will see what Real Madrid can do in the remainder of the European season under Arbeloa’s management.

Tactically, it was unclear what Real Madrid’s style of play was under Xabi Alonso. They passed the ball very well at times, but their defense was poor.

They were lethal on the counter-attack, but sometimes the midfielders didn’t support the pressure and the full-backs were very ineffective.

Goodbye Xabi Alonso  is one of the best decisions made by the Real Madrid board. Now the dilemma is whether they can hire a top coach who wants to take over a team mid-season.

Today Arbeloa set up a 4-3-3 formation with Jude Bellingham in midfield, Gonzalo García, Mbappé and Vinicius Jr in the attacking trident.

We need to keep an eye on this Real Madrid CF side as they face the challenges ahead in the UEFA Champions League. Mbappé scored another goal today.

74 goals, 09 assists in 84 official matches for Kylian Mbappé with the Real Madrid shirt to this day.

Manchester united outplayed and outworked manchester city in a fierce derby, taking a 2–0 win that felt bigger than the scoreline and instantly stamped Michael Carrick’s identity on the team.

United leaned on intensity and vertical transitions, unsettling city from the start and even having two goals ruled out for offside before finally breaking through.

Bryan ,Mbeumo killed a counter with a cold-blooded finish on 65 minutes, and Patrick Dorgu sealed it at the back post after another direct attack, as Old Trafford turned into a cauldron.

It was Carrick’s first league game in charge and it already looked like a reset: a compact block, brave pressing and a team that never once shrank against Guardiola’s side.

The win drags united back into the top‑four fight and leaves city bruised, six points off the top and looking unusually short of ideas in the biggest domestic test of their season so far.
